Walking into a new dental office should not feel like a gamble. At Magnolia Smiles, your first visit is built to feel calm, clear, and personal. We listen first, examine carefully, explain what we find in everyday words, and make sure you leave with a plan that feels understandable and manageable.
Your first appointment, step by step
Warm welcome at check-in
From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by name. If you filled out your forms online ahead of time (optional but helpful), we get you settled with no extra paperwork. Insurance, membership, or out-of-pocket, we will walk you through it.
One-on-one time with your hygienist
We start by listening. Your hygienist completes a gentle cleaning, takes diagnostic x-rays, and checks your gums and teeth with care. You see what we see on the screen, get clear next steps, and never feel rushed.
Doctor exam and treatment planning
Dr. Finnegan reviews your x-rays, examines your teeth and gums, and answers every question. If treatment is recommended, he explains the options in everyday words and puts timelines and costs in writing before anything starts.
First visit FAQs
Plan for 75 to 90 minutes. We take our time with every patient, so you never feel rushed.
Yes, if no major concerns are found during your initial exam. If you have active gum disease, we may schedule a separate deep cleaning (scaling and root planing).
Yes. We are out of network with all insurance plans, and you can still use your PPO benefits: you pay at your visit and we give you the paperwork your plan needs to reimburse you. We also offer an in-house membership plan, CareCredit financing for larger treatment, and written estimates before any treatment.
Bring a photo ID, your dental insurance card if you plan to use your PPO benefits, and a list of the medications you take. If you have recent X-rays from another office, let us know when you book.
Yes. Forms can be completed online ahead of time, which is optional but helpful. It means less paperwork at check-in and more time with your hygienist and Dr. Finnegan.
Yes. Six months or six years, you will not be judged here. We start where you are, explain what we see in everyday words, and pace any treatment so it feels manageable.

Magnolia Smiles is out of network with every dental insurance plan. That does not mean you can’t be seen here. It means your plan pays you back instead of paying us. Here is how paying for care works.
Use your PPO benefits
Pay at your visit and we give you the paperwork your plan needs. You submit it, and your plan reimburses you based on your out-of-network benefits. How out-of-network works
Membership instead of insurance
Adults $465 a year, kids 14 and under $415. Cleanings, exams, and X-rays included, with 10% off basic and major care and 5% off cosmetic care. See the plan
